ABB’s newly launched S-073N 3BHB009884R5211 phase module adopts Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristor (IGCT) technology. It achieves a phase measurement accuracy of ±0.1°, up over 30% from traditional thyristor modules.


The technology optimizes the switching characteristics of power semiconductor devices. This allows stable phase output even under high-frequency operation. As a result, it’s ideal for fields like wind power and petrochemicals, where phase control demands are strict.


The module features a modular internal design. It integrates the phase control unit, signal interface, and heat dissipation system into one unit. This enables quick replacement and maintenance. Notably, its heat dissipation system uses a bionic design. It optimizes airflow paths through fin structures. Even at 45°C ambient temperature, the module’s temperature rise stays within 30K—ensuring long-term reliability.

In a 500kV substation renovation by State Grid, the S-073N module paired with the ACS6000 series high-voltage frequency converter. It monitored grid phase fluctuations in real time to achieve dynamic reactive power compensation. This cut the grid harmonic distortion rate from 8.2% to 2.1%, meeting national Class A standards. Reliable Operation in High-Risk Environments
To meet petrochemical explosion-proof needs, the module uses a fully enclosed metal casing and intrinsic safety circuit design. It has earned ATEX and IECEx certifications, allowing stable operation in explosive gas environments (IIB T4). After being used in a coastal refinery, equipment failures dropped from 5 times/year to 0.3 times/year. Maintenance costs fell by 60%.


Energy Efficiency in New Energy Sectors
In a Xinjiang wind power project, the S-073N module works with the PM866K01 controller. It precisely controls the excitation phase of doubly-fed induction generators. This boosts unit power generation efficiency by 4.2%, adding about 1.2 million kWh annually. The solution won the “Green Technology Innovation Award” from the Chinese Renewable Energy Society.


III. System Integration: Building an Intelligent Control Network for Industry 4.0
The S-073N module supports mainstream industrial protocols like Ethernet/IP and Modbus. It also enables remote diagnosis and predictive maintenance via the ABB Ability™ platform.


In the Qingdao Special Steel smart manufacturing project, the module forms a closed-loop control system with robots, AGVs, and other equipment. Through real-time phase data sharing, rolling precision improved to ±0.05mm. Product qualification rates rose from 92% to 98.7%.


Notably, the module supports dual redundant bus access. Its logically independent electrical interface design ensures 72 hours of continuous operation even if the bus fails. This makes it a top choice for critical infrastructure like rail transit and nuclear power plants.


IV. Market Value: Standing Out in the Domestic Substitution Wave
Against the accelerating domestic substitution in industrial automation, the S-073N module gains an edge with technological strengths. Compared to similar Siemens products, its phase measurement accuracy is 25% higher, and response time is shorter (10μs vs. 15μs). Though priced 15% higher, its total lifecycle cost is 30% lower—an advantage in continuous operation scenarios.


According to Macquarie’s report, China’s industrial automation market demand rebounded in 2025. Segments like collaborative robots and new energy equipment grew over 40%. As a core component in high-voltage frequency conversion, the S-073N module is expected to see its market share rise from 8% to 15% in three years. It may become one of ABB’s fastest-growing product lines in China.
