Product Series and Applications
-
Wind Power Generation
The ABB PCS6000 series is a medium-voltage wind power converter series, specially designed for large wind turbines. Its power range can go from 4 MW to 12 MW, with a rated voltage of 3.3 kV. The series adopts IGCT (Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor) technology, achieving efficiency of over 98%, with high reliability and low losses. -
Industrial Drives
Based on mature medium-voltage variable frequency drive technology, it is suitable for various industrial environments, including steelmaking, metal processing, and more. This series features a high power density design, compact size, and ease of installation and maintenance. -
Railway Grids
The system adopts a AC-DC-AC converter, with decoupled input/output grids, offering comprehensive control functions, including DC bus (three-level module cascading) and converter efficiency of about 95%. -
Offshore Wind Power
The ABB PCS6000 series has also played an important role in offshore wind power. For example, the GE Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbine prototype uses ABB’s PCS6000 converter, which supports power outputs of up to 13 MW and helped the turbine set a world record in 2020 by generating 288 MWh over 24 consecutive hours. Furthermore, ABB PCS6000 supports both nacelle and tower installations, helping reduce cable laying costs and increase efficiency.
Summary
The ABB PCS6000 product series is an important achievement in the medium-voltage power conversion field by ABB. With its efficient, reliable, modular, and flexible customization features, it is widely applied in wind power generation, industrial drives, railway grids, static var compensation, battery energy storage, and other fields.
