Product Overview
The BAUMULLER 3.8107D is a highly integrated servo drive power supply and regenerative braking unit manufactured by Germany’s BAUMÜLLER. As a key component of the b maXX drive system, it rectifies three-phase AC power into stable DC bus voltage. It acts as a robust and reliable power source for multiple downstream servo inverters.
Equipped with intelligent regenerative energy processing circuits, the unit efficiently handles motor regenerative energy generated during deceleration. It feeds excess power back to the grid or dissipates energy through built-in braking resistors. This delivers superior energy efficiency and excellent system dynamic response.
Serving as a core energy hub for automated production lines, high-precision machine tools and material handling systems, the 3.8106F directly defines the stability and dynamic acceleration performance of the entire drive system. It simplifies system architecture and reduces wiring costs. It also provides multi-level safety protection such as overvoltage and overcurrent protection, making it an ideal foundation for modern energy-saving drive solutions.
This power unit adopts a compact book-style modular design, supporting side-by-side installation in control cabinets. Its powerful rated DC bus output easily drives multiple axis modules to meet stringent dynamic power demands. It works in full synergy with other b maXX series controllers and inverters to build a complete, efficient and flexible drive ecosystem. It greatly improves efficiency in system design, commissioning and maintenance, demonstrating BAUMÜLLER’s advanced drive technology capabilities.

Structure & Composition
The features a clear modular layout with functional zoning, following classic German industrial design principles. It adopts a robust metal housing with reliable EMC shielding and excellent heat dissipation performance. The front panel integrates intuitive LED indicators for run, fault and DC bus ready status, as well as terminal blocks for external braking resistors and 24V control power connection.
The internal structure is divided into three core functional zones: input rectifier and filter unit, DC bus capacitor bank, and regenerative braking control unit. The input rectifier unit consists of high-power rectifier bridges and pre-charge circuits. It effectively suppresses power-on inrush current and protects internal electronic components.
The high-capacity DC bus capacitor bank provides strong instantaneous power support and stable voltage output. It minimizes DC bus voltage drop during sudden load changes. The regenerative braking control unit integrates IGBT power modules and dedicated drive protection logic. It continuously monitors DC bus voltage. Once motor feedback energy raises the voltage to the threshold, it precisely activates the braking resistor to convert surplus electricity into heat, ensuring full-system safety.
All core components are electrically connected on a high-thermal-conductivity metal-based PCB. Physical isolation between power circuits and control circuits improves anti-interference capability and simplifies troubleshooting and maintenance. The top airflow channel and built-in intelligent fan adjust speed automatically based on internal temperature. It maintains optimal operating temperature under all load conditions and guarantees long-term operational reliability and service life.
Key Features & Advantages
1. High Reliability & Long Service Life
The 3.8106F adopts industrial-grade high-quality electrolytic capacitors and power semiconductors with sufficient design margins. Its intelligent temperature-controlled fan system reduces noise and mechanical wear under light-load and idle conditions. It effectively extends the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of the power unit and the entire drive system, supporting uninterrupted industrial production.
2. Superior Energy Efficiency & Regenerative Braking Performance
Built-in high-performance regenerative braking logic responds instantly to motor braking status and recycles regenerative energy efficiently. Compared with traditional resistor-only energy dissipation solutions, it enhances system dynamic response and allows faster acceleration and deceleration cycles. It significantly reduces power consumption and cooling costs, complying with modern industrial green and energy-saving requirements.
3. Flexible System Integration & Compact Structure
As a member of the b maXX series, the unit features a narrow book-shaped design with only 90mm width, saving valuable cabinet installation space. Standard DC bus interfaces support convenient backplane connection with series inverter modules without complex cable bridging. It simplifies system expansion and axis quantity adjustment, greatly improving cabinet wiring efficiency and neatness.
4. Comprehensive Protection Functions
The unit integrates complete hardware and software protection mechanisms, including phase loss protection, over/under voltage protection, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, overheat protection and ground fault detection. All protection functions deliver fast and precise responses. It isolates faults in real time to prevent fault escalation and effectively protects customer motors and mechanical equipment.

complete drive system.
Installation & Maintenance
Pre-installation Preparation
Before installation, confirm the control cabinet meets IP54 or higher protection grade. Ensure the installation environment is free of conductive dust, corrosive gas and strong vibration. Mount the module vertically on a flat backplate. Reserve a minimum 100mm unobstructed ventilation space above and below the unit.
Install the unit on standard DIN 35mm rails or fix it with M5 screws. Use shielded cables for all power connections including input power, DC bus and braking resistor wiring. Fasten all terminals strictly in accordance with official torque specifications to ensure long-term connection reliability. Install IEC-standard circuit breakers or fuses at the input end for safety isolation and overcurrent protection.
Maintenance Guidelines
Perform routine maintenance every 3 to 6 months after operation. Inspect the cooling fan operating status and noise regularly. Replace the fan timely if abnormal speed drop or abnormal noise occurs.
Clean dust from air inlets and heat sinks with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to avoid overheating failures caused by poor heat dissipation. Observe the front-panel Ready and Fault indicators during daily inspection. In case of tripping faults, troubleshoot external circuits and motor insulation first before checking the module itself. Minor faults can be recovered through short power cycle reset.
Use the official BAUMÜLLER DriveManager software for online parameter monitoring, commissioning and in-depth fault log analysis for advanced diagnosis.
