Working Principle

Its core working principle is the Gamma Ray Attenuation Method:

1. Radiation Source: One part of the instrument (the source container) houses a low-activity gamma radioactive source (e.g., Cesium-137).

2. Detector: The other part of the instrument (the detector unit) is mounted on the opposite side of the pipe or vessel, aligned with the radiation source.

3. Measurement: Gamma rays pass through the pipe wall and the process medium.

4. Attenuation: The medium absorbs a portion of the gamma rays. The higher the density of the medium, the more radiation is absorbed, and the weaker the signal reaching the detector.

5. Calculation: The detector converts the received radiation intensity into an electrical signal. The internal microprocessor in the LB 4460 calculates this signal based on a pre-defined calibration curve and displays it as the real-time density or concentration value of the medium.
