  1. Core Function: Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) I/O Module

    • This is its fundamental purpose. The T7484 module handles signals from field sensors (Inputs) or sends control signals to field actuators (Outputs).
    • “Triple modular redundancy” (TMR)‌ is the key design principle: It incorporates ‌three completely independent, parallel operating channels‌ to process the same signal or execute the same control command.
  2. Core Purpose: Achieving High Availability and Safety

    • Fault Tolerance:‌ The three-channel design allows the system to continue normal operation even if one (or sometimes two, depending on the specific strategy and configuration) channels fail. This minimizes the risk of unplanned downtime.
